Bottle Baby Kitten Nursery Fundraiser

Can you help a tiny kitten today?

Kitten pile

I recently started volunteering at Austin Pets Alive in their Bottle Baby Kitten Nursery. Imagine a room full of teensy tiny mewing kittens that are snuggled together, waiting to be fed wee bottles and get little beards of milk after they are done. It's just about the cutest thing! Or imagine a kitten weighing barely a pound trying to figure out how to eat solid food and ending up wearing half of it :) At this no-kill shelter there are so many more kittens right now than expected and they are running low on food. I have lots of time to feed kittens right now but not a lot of cash until work starts back up again in May. So I thought that maybe some people would like to help feed the cats with me through a wee fundraiser.

A donation of $3.00 - I will send a Bean Doodle postcard drawing of one of the kittens mailed to you (or anyone you choose). That $3 buys 3 cans of special kitten food which will feed many of the wee kittens that are learning to eat solids.

A donation of $10.00 - I will paint a watercolor kitten picture with a silly or cute saying on heavy watercolor paper and send it to you (or anyone you choose). That $10 buys enough kitten formula powder to feed a litter of kittens for weeks until they can try smooshy cat food. Wee kittens drinking from wee bottles awwww.

A donation of anything more than $10 - I will make you a stuffed felt kitten wearing a dress or shorts and suspenders. Your color choice, stuffed kitten will be about 6 to 8 inches tall.

Fundraiser will start now and go for the rest of April. All proceeds will go directly to purchasing food for the kittens living at Austin Pets Alive in Austin, TX. You can donate to my paypal account at beanbell@me.com or contact me if you'd like to send me a check. I will make all art and mail it out by May 15th :) I'm also posting this fundraiser on Facebook so you may see it there too. Click this Donate button to be easily directed to the Paypal page

  2. just found you from love and hisses. I LOVE the idea of a nursery. I heard of something similar in LA when I was watching "Must Love Cats". And I have heard of Austin Pets Alive through Best Friends. Gotta check the green papers, but in the meantime, nice to meetcha and have fun with the babies!!

    1. Sometimes the nursery is so quiet and everyone is sleeping and then one baby peeps up and MEOW MEOW MEOW! *heh* I think right now we have over 40 lil fuzz babies in there. I am trying to have fun with the babies even the ones that chew my hand not the bottle nipple :) Your litter of all the little black kitties is so precious - I'm adding you to my blogroll immediately!

  3. What if I want all three?? but then again how will I know I want all three if I can't see examples? Maybe once I see samples I'll want multiples of all three... how do I see your facebook page??

I love that they do this. What a wonderful opportunity. Taking on the full responsibility of bottle babies can be overwhelming and so scary to be off putting, but to be able to go and just spend some time... I know I would so be there.. probably way too much.

    1. Hi Connie :) Here are examples of my art that I have made from this very blog.

The felt art that I make little animals wearing clothes. I make them up as I go so they have a general style not a specific pattern - like
      Piglet or
      Koala

I also have some watercolors on this blog that I've done -
      Hippo or
      Hamster.
I'll be painting unique things for everyone so feel free to request a specific kitty or send me a photo.

I think we have 40+ babies at the nursery right now, but there are always people there taking turns feeding them and today I was there at 8am and finally tore myself away close to 3pm *heh* Good thing I have off work this week! Some people just come in for 2 hours and then leave but they get a chance to feed like 10 babies or more in that time frame! If you have any more questions, feel free to shoot me an email at beanbell@me.com :) :)

  7. I came here from Love and Hisses. Welcome to Texas and thank you for helping with the tiny babies. I've donated to Austin Pets Alive in the past and am very happy to do so again via your fund raiser for kitten food. Your artwork is also adorable, but this donation is a free gift. It's on the way!

  8. Man, what a lovely thing. Must do good things for the bottle babies! I wish I lived nearer so I could donate time in addition to funds, which are on their way. :)
